‘Cool’ is being un-cool and un-cool is mainstream. They’re indie until they die and we are cool! Skinny jeans, chequered shirts, pumps, nu-age Flock O’ Seagulls haircuts, ‘these flaming little buds’ – to quote Tom Wolfe, who was around when things were actually cool and hot and new and chic and sexy. The bands were good then too. The 60s was Wolfe’s decade when he pioneered New Journalism and used literary techniques in news features and shook the pompous order of the printed world. He wasn’t alone though; there was also Hunter S Thompson (and many more). Yes, I know you know him thanks to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas being transferred to celluloid by Terry Gilliam. Ahhhhhhh, praise the silver screen for opening doors books cannot. Ahhhhhhh, thank the movie moguls for reaching a new generation. Ahhhhhh, become a part of the cult!

It’s all Desperados and gigs, not clubs, drugs and getting sweaty for the fuck of it and pushing it until Sunday night. I blame E4. They are getting them young, the poor buds, and all day Sunday! The bands they showcase are geeks in shirts with I’m-making-a-statement-hair, but you look like everyone who is in the NME, dufus! Images of NME burned in their psyche. Oh! How we want to be famous! Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could play Glastonbury? Rich, you know how we dreamed of playing Glastonbury when our mums and dads bought us our first Les Paul’s? We’re on the John Peel stage at noon. Oh my God! How exciting it will be! Those fans will love us, but we must be moody it is part of our mystique. NME will love us then, they will think we are so hip! Then, Rich, we can go on Jools Holland and maybe make an album with The Last Shadow Puppets. Yippee!

If that’s how the conversation went/was imagined in mummy’s Renault on the way home from a Kasabian gig,you are one of them.

I want rock gods, not new romantic indie gimps. Thank God podcast's like RK2 Minimal is here to protect me from the indie shite. Thank you, Trevster and Korruptor. Like the journalist John Pilger you are a ‘beacon of light in dark times’.

And you, Bane, you and your fucking bus can go and pick up the factory workers in the Joblink because I spend more time listening to decent stuff with friends than I do on ‘cool’ computer games or listening to bands that have no staying power. As I should!
